This project is a partnership between UNFCCC and RISE/Mission Innovation. It focuses on the development of a climate innovation trend scanner – a strategic tool to support accelerated uptake of climate innovations to build a globally sustainable future where 11 billion can live flourishing lives.
Responding to an expanded climate innovation agenda, stakeholders will be approached as potential providers of solutions, not just the sources of emissions. Rather than just focusing on strategies based on existing sectors, the project will be expanded to include human needs.
The objective is to inspire ambitious climate and innovation strategies by identifying best and next practices. Only the top-documents with inspiring content are shown, as the purpose is to provide information and inspiration, rather than present a ranking of countries and stakeholders.
This version includes assessments of climate strategies from countries, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Communication of long-term strategies, as well as documents of strategic value for an expanded innovation agenda.
The project is user-driven and the objective is to make everything, from selection of data and functionalities to presentation and assessments, possible to tailor to the user’s need. If there is anything that you think should be added, please let us know here.
The tool is developed in partnership with AI4Good, BWA and other leading international experts.
In accordance with Article 4, paragraph 12 of the Paris Agreement, NDCs communicated by Parties shall be recorded in a public registry maintained by the secretariat. This open database allow for relatively easy data scraping. This initial assessment is a word count of key words related to the two different parts of the expanded innovation agenda:
Under Human-Need leadership key words that are related to core human needs (rather than only reduction of emissions from current sectors) are identified. Under Solution Provider leadership key words that are related to solution providers, new technologies and rapid changes. Here also recognition of challenges with a static problem approach is also included.
The assessment tool allow users to select and weigh different words, use different filter and sorting options, as well as suggest additional words and categories. The purpose is not to identify any absolute leadership, but rather provide an opportunity to explore best and next practice from an expanded innovation perspective in key documents. When the AI part is ready it will also be able to compare the climate strategies with other sources, and also use sentiment assessments and other tools.
